Seventh Heaven Want to live like a sheik for a night? Five-star ratings are oh-so-shabby compared to the crop of new seven-star hotels emerging in exotic destinations. The Burj Al Arab in Dubai debuted as the world’s first seven-star hotel a decade ago, but hotels in the Middle East and Asia are now following suit.
This architectural masterpiece was modeled after the sail of a famous Arabian ship. The foundation was constructed on an artificial island in Dubai and the hotel is home to the world’s tallest atrium at 590 feet. But its status as the world’s first seven-star hotel is up for debate. On a standard star-rating system, it scores only a five.
With China emerging as an urban, pseudo-capitalist society, it is now adding a seven-star hotel to its increasingly modern skyline. While still under construction in Beijing, the hotel itself will be situated in the Morgan Plaza and will be one of many various buildings in the bustling district of Changan. The plaza will contain two pavilions, a temple, a Japanese restaurant and a 600-meter long corridor. Located on Kish Island in Iran, the Flower of the East began construction in 2004 and is slated for completion in 2010. The Flower of the East hotel is designed to look, well, like a flower. But its seven-star rating ensures that it won’t look like any other flower. Designed with a combination of Persian and modern architectural influences, the hotel will be surrounded by a beautiful park and will be visible from every area of the development.
The Centaurus Pakistan’s seven-star Centaurus hotel will be located in The Centaurus development project upon its completion, projected for 2010. Officials in Pakistan hope the development will usher personal and international growth in Pakistan. The hotel itself will be 37 stories tall.
The Pentominium While more of an apartment rather than a hotel, The Pentominium in Dubai will be the second tallest building dedicated to residential living in the world. The project broke ground in 2007 and the anticipated date of completion will be in the year 2011. The complex will aim to provide luxury amenities, much like a hotel, including butler service, the use of luxury vehicles and sailing trips.
